The final text in our 3-year Latin series, Latin Alive! Book 3 Revised Edition (LA3) carries forward the work of LA1 and LA2 and demonstrates the connections the classical world and Latīna līngua share with our modern lives.
In LA3, students will:
- Review grammar introduced in LA1 and LA2, including infinitives, expressions of cause, simple conditionals, and other important concepts
- Study new Latin grammar concepts such as deponent verbs, different forms of the subjunctive mood, and sequence of tenses
- Read excerpts from Latin poetry, including works written by Vergil, Catallus, and Horace
- Complete engaging exercises that will have them speaking, listening, observing, drawing, and even moving about the classroom
- Read a variety of adapted Latin readings—including works of literature by Alcuin, Boethius, and Augustine—that show students that Latin did not fall with Rome but continued to spread across the globe
- Deepen their knowledge of the impact of the Latin language and Roman history through articles by Dr. Christopher Schlect of New St. Andrews College, Dr. Grant Horner of the Master’s University, and Ravi Scott Jain of Eastern University’s Templeton Honors College
- Prepare for academic opportunities such as the National Latin Exam, the Universal Latin Exam, and a Latin Advanced Placement class
