Description

Ride the rails and roads through farm country when you play Railroad Tiles: Countryside Expansion by Horrible Guild Games. Add the 44 new Country Route Tiles to the included cloth bag and set up the game each round using the manual’s chart to add them to the base game offerings. Country tiles all include barns, and some have fences, villages, railroad tracks, or roads. Another surprise is the 39 animal pawns (13 each of pigs, sheep, and cows) and a cloth bag to draw them from. After setting up the route tiles, one random animal is drawn and placed beneath each route tile column. When placing country route tiles, follow base game rules for roads and railroads. Animal pawns are always placed in a barn. Pasture areas contain barns and uninterrupted contiguous areas, which provide more points for larger pastures containing animals of the same species. Fences, railroad tracks, and roads separate pastures, as do the town tiles from the base game. Some countryside tiles have blue buildings, which are village tiles. These do not interrupt pastures, but they do work with town tiles from the base game to build cities for end-game points.

Besides the rules for integrating country tiles and animals and scoring rules for them, game play remains the same as the base game. If using objective tiles for more challenge, this expansion includes three country tile challenges. There are also three solo mode challenges included. This expansion is for 1-4 players with a 45-minute game time, and the base game is required to play.

I really had fun with the puzzle of placing animals together in pastures and with the scoring rules around it. I have also played with two of the new objective tiles.  ~ Marsha

Category Description for Railroad Tiles Game & Expansions

Have fun building roadways, railroads, and cities with this unique, strategic tile-laying game. Published in 2025 along with eight expansions, Railroad Tiles is easy to get started with the base game and plays with up to 4 people ages 8 and up. Then, when you want more variety and challenge, sample some of the expansions to add various types of scenic tiles and new scoring goals.

Railroad Tiles Game: It all starts here, and all expansions require this base game to play.  Following a concise, illustrated rulebook, use basic tile selection in turn order to choose the tiles each round to add to your quickly expanding travel network. This game and all its expansions include thematic route tiles to add to tile choices, and the game works best with only one expansion at a time being added to the base game. Also included with expansions are thematic challenge tiles as well as solo play challenges. Here is a brief overview of each expansion, with more detail available in each of their individual descriptions. All expansions require the base game to play.

Canals Expansion – Canal tiles transform your network as you place gondolas for travel on them and bridges to span them.

Countryside Expansion – Travel the countryside and add barns, fences, pastures, cows, pigs, and sheep to your expanding network.

Desert Expansion – Did you say camels!? Connect deserts to railroads and highways and place camel pawns in your new arid environment.

Energy Expansion – Do you hear the air crackling? It must be the energy you provide towns and cities with to power them up and earn more points!

Forest Expansion – Enjoy beautiful fall colors in the forest and equip forests with lookout towers to help keep wildlife and tourists safe.

Lakes Expansion – Create lakes and ports and place ferry tokens where the roads meet the water in your busy network.

Monuments Expansion – Play as an archaeologist traveling the highways and railroad lines while discovering sites to build arches, temples, and tower monuments.

Railroad Tiles: World Expansion –  This is the only expansion that lets you play either with just the core game or with the core game AND any other expansion. Special pawns with unique placement rules (travelers, cars, and trains) provide added points.
