Using Language Well 2nd edition
Book 5 teacher provides you, as parent, with the tools, answers, and
guidance needed to help your student become an effective communicator. Multiple
rubrics provide help both student and teacher evaluate written narrations. Students
will be completing dictations of up to one paragraph and 3 narrations weekly.
While each level in this series builds on the previous level. This level’s
lessons are Part 1 of sentence analysis studies; part 2 is completed in Book 6.
Study includes Objects (direct, indirect), compound predicates and objects, and
will also move into figurative language (along with poetry analysis) including

This teacher guide provides answers and guidance as you lead your seventh-grade level student through the lessons in Using Language Well, Book 5. Inside you’ll find the complete passage used for each lesson, answers to the lesson questions, helpful teaching tips, and options for customizing spelling lessons to your student’s level.
Also included are rubrics for evaluating your student’s written narrations based on concepts learned in Using Language Well lessons, reinforcing these Charlotte Mason language arts lessons in other subjects such as history, geography, and science.
This level of Using Language
Well, Book 5, 2nd edition is designed for students who are comfortable
reading and composing at about a 7th-grade level. A placement
test is available for help in assigning your student to a level. Students
will complete two lessons weekly, each taking about 15-20 minutes. As with each
level in this series, students will review and build upon previously taught
skills and be introduced to more. For example, in Level 4, students focused on
compound verbs, prepositional phrases, interjections, antecedents, simple
subjects, and predicates. In Level 5, students will review the grammar skills while
parsing sentences and begin analyzing them. Spelling will continue to be drawn
from the literary passages, with the flexibility of three different learning
levels. Students will be expected to dictate up to one paragraph and complete 3
written narrations weekly. Instruction will include figures of speech, similes,
and metaphors. Rubrics for progressing writers based on a ten-point per topic
scale and will help direct your student more carefully. Directions are in the
