Megalosaurus has the distinction of being the first dinosaur to be officially named (not counting birds) all the way back in 1824. 
While much of Megalosaurus is a mystery, it is known that it was a meat eater that could grow up to 30 feet in length. It lived during the Jurassic Period, 166 million years ago.
