Description

This is a wonderful supplement to support an existing handwriting curriculum. The first half of the book practices manuscript writing and the second half practices cursive writing. Students will learn how to form letters as they appear in order of the alphabet with lowercase and uppercase practice. Instructions on how to form letters are found on the Letter Formation Chart, located at the beginning of each section. There are three letters to trace and then space to write independently in both manuscript and cursive lessons. In later sections, students will fill in the missing letter of words, trace and write sentences, complete fun activity pages, and practice skills with games and projects. The letter formation for some letters in cursive is unique, such as the b, v, and w. Feel free to modify or simplify letters as needed to match the style your student is learning. Black and white pages. Pb, 270 pgs.

Publisher's Description of Handwriting: Manuscript and Cursive

Handwriting: Manuscript, Cursive includes 192 pages of manuscript and cursive writing activities! You will never need another handwriting resource.

This book is divided into two sections: Traditional Manuscript and Traditional Cursive. Within each section are units that develop handwriting skills and provide valuable, real-world practice.

Handwriting skills practiced in each section of manuscript and cursive include:

  • Stroke practice—this section focuses on building fine motor skills and muscle memory. These worksheets include line shapes such as clouds, waves, stairs, and more.
  • Letter practice—this section is based on alphabetical order and includes lowercase and uppercase letters.
  • Word practice—this section focuses on letters organized by stroke group, so strokes are reinforced in several similar letters at a time. Letters are practiced in the context of names, primary words, and sentences.
  • Activities—tongue twisters, rhymes, poems, shopping lists, thank-you notes, invitations, space facts, human body facts, and more!
  • Games and projects—Tic-Tac-Write, Rainbow Names, Crossroads, Five by Five, and more!

Your students will improve their penmanship with these handwriting worksheets and learn a valuable skill for life!

Why Teach Handwriting?
Handwriting skills are practical in order to communicate clearly in writing, especially for schoolwork and other real-world tasks such as writing lists, filling out forms, and labeling things.

What Does the Research Say?
Forming letters strengthens recognition, sound-symbol relationship, and multisensory connections between vision, hearing, and muscle memory. In addition, taking notes by hand improves retention.

These materials span grade levels and include both instruction and practice.
