Yes, it is! That’s Pretty Clever from Stronghold Games is not just any roll-and-write and packs some planning and strategy into the “luck of the roll.” Unique to this game are the five different scoring areas, how they interact with die rolls, and award points. Also distinctive is how the turns proceed each round, with an active player choosing three dice and taking actions on their score sheet, with a re-roll after each die choice. The remaining players are “passive” in that they each choose one “leftover” die from the ones unused by the active player. Each round, all players rotate as the active and passive player(s) until each person has been the “active” player, with the total number of rounds determined by player count.
Throughout the game, as specified items, rows, or columns are marked off or completed, there are bonuses awarded. For example, one award allows a player to mark off any item on a specified section of their game sheet. The game ends after the last active player finishes their turn in the final round and all passive players take their last actions for the round. Everyone totals points from all five sections of their game sheet and the player with the most points wins!
Instructions for a solo game are included. If you like roll-and-write games with lots of “combotastic” turns, this one is a winner! With its small box and 30-minute game time, it is also great for travel. For 1-4 players. ~ Marsha
