Join Foxy to test your observation and memory skills in this fast-paced card game with beautiful artwork and adorable animals. The game comes with 48 large cards with 4 different surroundings (country farm, grasslands, sea, and forest). Each of these cards also has anywhere from 1-3 different animals in the scene. Randomly choose 19 cards from the shuffled stack and return the rest to the box. Shuffle the single Foxy card into the remaining cards.
Each player takes one of the player boards and an erasable marker. There are 20 numbered squares on the player board, each representing one turn that all players have. To start, the first card in the deck is revealed and placed next to it. Players observe the animals on the card, and in the 1st square on their player board, they secretly write their estimate of the total number of each of the specific animals shown on the card that have already appeared in the game (this turn is easy, as the answer only includes this card!). When everyone is finished, the next card is turned over and placed on top of the last card. Strategy Tip: Since you earn a point for each correct answer, it may be tempting to overestimate, but since points will only be received for guesses that are under or equal to the correct answer, overestimating is not as helpful.
Using square 2 on their board, players do the same thing as their last turn, but on this turn and all turns that follow, the challenge of remembering how many of each type of animal has appeared on previous cards increases, especially since there are 9 different animals that appear in different combinations on the cards. Once per game, if you are confident your answer is correct, you can bet on the exact value and circle the answer instead of making an estimate. If you are correct, you will earn double points for that turn. If you are wrong, you will earn no points for that turn.
Important: As you flip over cards each turn, remember not to mix them up, as it will be crucial to keep them in exact order for scoring.
The Fox Card Appears! Players never know when that will happen, but when it does, your estimate for that turn will be the number of different types of animals you have seen so far (the fox does not count!).
Once you've finished the deck, after twenty rounds, flip it back over. One player grabs the Common Board that came with the game, which has a row for each animal sighting. Then, go through the cards again, but keep a public tally of how many animals of each type have been seen by checking off a box to the right of each animal appearing on the revealed card one round at a time and reading off the current total for each animal’s appearance. If the number you wrote for a round is equal to or less than the total number of animals seen, you score that many points; if the number is larger, then cross it out and score nothing for that round. Don’t forget to score any circled (exact guess) guesses based on its result. Whoever scores the most points wins.
