You get micro-cut balsa wood, cutting tools, measuring tape, layout pencil, nails, custom miter fixture, nine working drawings, an instruction booklet, and a base to work on, which doubles as a foundation for the completed model. Obviously (with a base measuring approximately 1.5' by 2'), this is a miniature version, but short from framing an actual house, this is as close as students can get. All of the walls can be framed right on their patterns on the working drawings. 3/4" scale model house framing kit provide all necessary materials for students to construct their own hip roof house. They learn the fundamentals of house framing & develop a strong sense of accomplishment when they finish their house.
For grades 6-12. Foot pad is approximately 1-1/2' x 2'.
Students will learn to:
- Identify lumber by size, name and use in the wood frame
- Frame according to accepted building codes
- Define & use carpentry terms
- Appreciate the importance of accuracy
- Understand and relate floor plan to framed structure
