The course begins with atoms and molecules, progressing into cells, genetics, microorganisms, fungi and plants, animals, and human organ systems. It also includes a survey of ecology, population genetics, and evolutionary theory teaching. Successful completion of Algebra 1 is required, with Geometry being taken concurrently. Required components include the Student Edition, Digital Resources, and the Apprentice Companion. Optional and helpful resources include the Student Lab Report Handbook and Lab Kits. A microscope with 400x magnification is required but not included in the Lab Kits. The Novare General Biology Program includes the Student Edition, Digital Resources, and the Apprentice Companion. The Program includes the 2nd edition General Biology Student Edition, which offers reorganization of topics, expanded information including more in-depth coverage of RNA and the history of RNA research, and improved clarity in wording and mathematical application.
