The Historical Poetry Cursive Set by Grooved Learning teaches cursive skills through meaningful passages from classic historical poetry! These books are beautiful! The top-bound spiral workbooks allow them to lie flat so children can see poetry on the top half and practice their letters and words on the bottom half. Another added feature is the grooved letters and words that kids can trace and feel, giving them guided practice.
Book 1 teaches letters & transitions. The beginning page offers cursive stroke practice. Then four new letters (both capital and lowercase) are taught on each page with a line of practice for each new letter. A red dot shows students where to begin each letter. Numbers 0-9 are also taught along with two pages of transition practice (joining two letters together). Lines are traditional ½ inch with dotted midline.
Book 2 expands into full words and sentences drawn directly from the historical poetry passages. The 7/16 inch lines with dotted midline are a little smaller than Book One. In the first section, students complete the poem by tracing the pre‑grooved words rather than copying the text shown above. The next section provides blank dotted lines on the top half of the page so students can copy the passage and then finish the poem on the grooved lines below. Toward the end of the book, learners progress to copying longer poems entirely, building fluency and confidence as they go.
The set also comes with 4 magic ink pens (with refills) that disappear in 20 minutes! This makes every page reusable for endless practice. A QR code also provides information on the poems and their authors along with free poetry activities and additional printable cursive practice.
