Description
Take the simplicity of Bob Books and turn it
into a reading game – genius! Each player begins by choosing one of the
friendly Bob Books characters as their pawn. Cards are passed out, and players take
turns spinning to determine how many spaces their pawn will move around the board.
Spaces are displayed in alphabetical order and include a blackline drawing of
something that begins with that letter along with the printed word. Children
choose one of their cards to either form a word beginning with that letter or
match the letter if it’s a vowel. If they can form a word or match the vowel,
they get a hat token. Player with the most hats at the end of the game wins. For
1-4 players.
Publisher's Description of Bob Books Happy Hats My First Reading Game
Bob Books has helped children learn to read for decades, and now little ones can learn to recognize letters and sounds with the Bob Books Happy Hats My First Reading Game. Play and read with Sam, Mat, Dot, and Mit in this board game made just for beginning readers. Children explore letter names and letter sounds as they create simple words to help pave the path to reading success. Along the way, children collect "Happy Hats" for every word they create.
Each person chooses one of the friendly Bob Books characters as their moving piece. Spin the spinner to see how many spaces to move around the edge of the game board. On each space, there is a blackline drawing of something that begins with that letter, along with the printed word. Children choose from their hand of word-ending cards (40 in the game) to either form a word beginning with that letter or match the letter (if it's a vowel). If they can form a word or match the vowel, they get to take a hat token. The player with the most hats at the end of the game wins. Learning to read just became a whole lot more fun!
Created by a teacher and built through word of mouth, Bob Books has been helping children to read for over 40 years and has sold millions of sets of books. Game play encourages the use of social skills, literacy, and simple counting. Reading is fundamental. Happy Hats makes it fun!
