Description

Washed Ashore by Alley Cat games is a compact card-flipping survival adventure story game for solo play. There are three chapters to the game, which tell the story of being washed ashore on an island and your journey of discovery afterwards. It may take a couple of playthroughs to survive long enough to encounter all three chapters, but it promises to be an engaging experience. So how does the game work?

Each turn, read the top card of your play deck, which presents you with more than one narrative and a choice to make between them. These choices almost always require adding or losing one of three survival resources (food, energy, and safety). After you choose, the card gets flipped and usually moves to the back of your play deck. Sometimes a card gives you items such as an axe or a tent, which give you advantages going forward.

It is always fun to discover new items and explore the island while also trying to survive long enough to figure out a way to leave the island and return home. You also walk a tightrope of balancing quick progress with not running out of crucial resources and either starving, losing all energy, or being too unsafe, which can bring a quick end to the game and your life.

Don’t be afraid to jump right in and experience this engaging story with 13 possible endings.  It is quick to reset the game each time, as it is just a matter of putting the 68 numbered cards in order. Replay and see where different choices along the way may lead! The artwork in this game is beautiful, and once you get the rules down, it is easy to keep pulling this compact game back out for another adventure. 35 minutes per session if you survive that long! ~ Marsha
