Storybook Latin Year 1 Student Workbook from Logos Press is a full-color worktext that includes instruction, vocabulary, derivative practice, exercises, and review pages. In the appendix are the grammar references, question key, and glossary.
This first volume teaches Latin vocabulary and grammar through the lens of classic fables. In the first half of the book, students are learning foundational vocabulary and grammar. Students look at a picture along with the new word to help learn new vocabulary rather than rote translation. In a given lesson, students learn 14-18 new vocabulary words followed by a short grammar lesson. Exercises include listing derivatives, filling in grammar charts, and reviewing grammar concepts.
In the 2nd half of the book, your student will know enough vocabulary and grammar to start reading and translating the Latin fables. In each lesson your student will use what they learned to read a short fable, one sentence at a time. Above each Latin sentence is a blank square where the student will illustrate the sentence that he just read, with about 12 story squares total. As part of translating the story, students are also asked to mark or label specific grammar concepts in the sentence.
