Take on the role of a cubically shaped racer in the cubic world of Cubitos by Alderac Entertainment Group. In this zany world, dice rolls determine the distance you can travel on a racetrack in an annual competition for the Cube Cup. They also help you purchase more colorful dice, which reward you with “feet” for travel, along with coins and credits for more dice purchases. Along the way, accumulate rewards to help you move through the race course. When a player crosses the finish line, everyone takes their final turn and the person who has traveled the furthest distance to or over the finish line wins the game!
If you like games with a prominent luck-based mechanic, a variety of setups, and some strategy involved, this might be an exciting choice for family game time! There are four different racetracks with various levels of navigational challenges and rewards. Dice purchases furnish many different types and levels of rewards. There are 8 different colors of dice to purchase, and each one’s functionality and rewards are driven by a card that shows its dice-reward symbols along with an explanation of how that die works with that card. Because there are also 7 different cards for each die color, you can really vary the combination of cards and rewards given with each game. Although the age for the game is listed as 10+, the board game community has successfully played this game with kids who are 8, based on their gameplay experience. For 1-4 players with a solo mode included in the rulebook. Cubitos plays in 30-60 minutes. ~ Marsha
