There is so much life below the canopy that is formed by trees in the Amazon forest. Published in 2021 by Weird City Games, Canopy challenges players to build their own forest ecosystem from drafted cards, competing to earn the most points for optimizing the numbers and arrangements of the trees, plants, and wildlife they have added to it.
Using a card draft, players build their forest, with different rewards and points for various card types. With trees, players try to create them with the most trunk cards to grow them as tall as possible. Trunk cards display different point values, and when a canopy card is drafted, it must be put on top of a trunk, thus, completing a tree. Canopy cards also have a multiplier value for the number of trunk cards beneath them. Plant cards have unique scoring criteria for each species. Some reward points for specific numbers of a card set and others provide action benefits. At the end of a round, points are counted for completed trees and plants and those cards are discarded. Wildlife cards are scored at endgame only. After the third round-end scoring is complete, wildlife cards are scored and reward points for sets of the same animal. These wildlife cards also provide action benefits throughout the game when they are in a player’s forest. The player with the most total points wins! For 2 players with additional rules included for 3-4 players. Plays in 30 minutes. There are solo challenge rules too!
