All About Math Level 1 Materials includes the Teacher’s Manual and Student Packet. The Teacher’s Manual has 60 scripted lessons that are designed to be spread out over a couple of days since the publisher recommends spending around 20 minutes a day teaching math. The Student Packet includes Hop Into Math Activity Book, Brinda’s Math Tools (number cards, dot cards, 10-frame, and more), and themed stickers. Activities might incorporate games, drawing, cutting and pasting, or completing a worksheet. Brinda’s Math Fun activities provide even more games for students to apply what they have learned.
Level 1 includes
some concepts covered in kindergarten and first grade. Some topics in this
level involve learning how to subitize, teaching simple addition and subtraction, comparing
numbers, finding the missing number, understanding less than and greater than,
ordering two-digit numbers and comparing, adding two-digit numbers with base 10
blocks and drawings.
Students gain a lot
of conceptual knowledge and mental math in this level; however, the scope and
sequence is somewhat narrower than other early math programs. For example, there
are no lessons on shape, time, money, weight and capacity, but Level 1 instead
focuses on understanding the number system so children can easily grasp other
concepts later. There is also no practice learning how to write numbers;
although, most handwriting programs will teach number formation.
One manipulative kit for all grade levels is available to purchase separately. Students also need a small dry erase board with markers. ~ Gina
