Description

David Kherdian's award-winning book about Veron, a young Armenian girl living in a small Turkish village amidst the massacres around 1915, on the heels of World War I. Life was very good, beautiful, and secure for nine-year-old Veron, who greatly enjoyed her family and other simple things in life. She never imagined things to be any other way until the day her family and other Armenians were forced to evacuate Azizya. This day would mark only the beginning of years of unspeakable horrors and struggle that she is about to face. Though she faces great loss, pain, and hunger, Veron is a young woman who was made to endure all of the challenges she would encounter. Through dark times, without denying her true feelings, she also maintains an optimistic outlook and forgets her personal sorrows by brightening the lives of others. Though several situations take place in her crucial adolescent age that threaten to separate her from her Armenian roots and her Christian faith, she remains strong and hopeful.
