This reading curriculum uses one Christian Light Reader, The
Road Less Traveled from the publisher’s “Reading to Learn” series as
its hub. Stories highlight individuals who must make choices and the faith
lessons that come as a result. Themes include parables from nature, pioneers,
living for others, serving gracefully, and heavenly treasure. Scripture verses
are part of the curriculum and character building will come from an Anabaptist
perspective.
Students engage with these stories using the 5 consumable
student LightUnits. Using these, students will strengthen reading skills and literature
themes. Concepts taught include root words and vocabulary, descriptive writing,
parables and poetry, dynamic and static characters, folk tales, types of
conflict, setting, allusion, irony, and poetic terms (rhyme, rhythm, form, and
techniques, and more). Glossaries of literary, poetic, and vocabulary terms are
included. Each section brings in a Bible verse that highlights the theme, as
well as student oral reading assignments from the required The Road Less Traveled
Reader. While the program focuses on gaining the most from the Reader’s
units, there is also a focus on Christian role models and life application.
This reading program is available as a complete set with a
spiral-bound Teacher
Guide and Answer Key.
For a second student, you’ll need a complete set of student consumables.
The center of each student LightUnit provides the consumable,
individual quizzes and tests. Answers for these are in the separate Quiz and Tests Answer Key.
These color, updated materials will correlate with the previous black and white
2nd edition. ~ Ruth
