The God’s Big Story Reading Level 5 Textbook from Generations organizes the Bible into its narrative parts and digs deeper still into 75 stories for 5th grade students. This will become a go-to illustrated Bible on your bookshelf as it encourages development of ELA skills such as reading comprehension and literary analysis. At the end of each chapter is a Scripture reading and a Faith Lesson. Here connections are made between characters’ actions and what God wants us to learn to develop in our own character. Fewer illustrations are presented, and more text is available for each Bible story. Each chapter is about 5-6 pages long, and once finished reading, students move to the corresponding lesson work in their Student Workbook. Nowadays it's fashionable to introduce 'great books' to our children
in their Christian paideia or educational training. We, however,
recommend the best Book—the Bible. If our children want to learn to read
and think, the first and core content of their study must be the Bible.
These are God's stories, and our children should know all the stories
of Scripture by the time they are reading on a fifth grade level.
Avoiding the piecemeal approach to Bible stories, the authors of this course instead present the whole story, the unity of Scripture, the true message intended by God. It is a redemptive story. While there may be moral lessons to glean here and there, the core message of Scripture is the work of God in redemption. This is the story the Bible presents from cover to cover and is the story focused on in this reading course.
God’s Big Story Level 5 from Generations is a full-year (36-week) reading/Bible program that is a full-color, systematic, and user-friendly and speaks the Word of God into the hearts and minds of 4th-6th grade students. The target grade for this level is grade 5; however, accelerated 4th grade students or struggling 6th grade students will also feel right at home at this level. Lessons build upon the biblical stories read in previous levels and break the Bible down into its narrative parts: The Five Books of Moses, The Historical Books, The Gospels, Acts, and Revelation. There are three main components to the Generations Reading program:
