Elementary Mathematics Book 4 continues to approach math
education through interactive, concentrated lessons. At this level, lessons
take about 30 minutes. Understanding that our children are unique, the author
provides suggestions for balancing parent-child interaction and independent
work, with the goal of helping children become proficient at working solo.
Lessons conclude with 5 minutes of oral mental math activities. Beginning with
a review of topics from the previous year, topics covered include addition/subtraction
up to 1,000,000; calculating area; drawing plans to scale; long multiplication
and division; fractions; measures of time; Roman numerals; US standard and
metric measurements; rounding and averages; and fractions and decimals. Three
exams, one for the end of each term, are included. Students will need grid
paper (¾”, ½”, or ¼”); a personal chalk or dry-erase board; play money (bills
and coins); a meter or yardstick; a 12” ruler (US and metric); an analog clock;
1” cubes; a kitchen scale; 1” and ¼” graph paper; and some household items.

previously learned material before introducing new concepts. A free placement
test is available for children new to Elementary Mathematics.
Parents will appreciate the “open and go” daily lessons and straightforward
instructions. A ½”
