Primary Math 2022 Teacher's Guide 4A
Product Overview
Description
The Teacher Guide is a colorful, classroom-oriented (large, oversized 10"x12") manual that provides the resources needed to successfully teach the Grade 4A course. Introductory information covers the Singapore math approach and methodology detailing the Guide's features. Chapter information is extensive and includes a chapter overview and progression, plus a detailed lesson-by-lesson “chapter at a glance" chart that provides learning outcomes, focus questions, I CAN statements, vocabulary, materials, and instructional resources used (Student Book page numbers). It also includes “mathematical practices" (Singapore equivalent to “standards"). The learning methodology is based on teacher-student interaction, and the TG provides questions and discussion points in addition to step-by-step learning sequences.
The detailed daily lessons (about 50-60 minutes each) include Lesson Opener, Learn, Learn Together (activities geared to pairs and groups of students), and Practice on Your Own exercises. Activity! pages are periodically incorporated into these lessons. Reduced copies of student pages (with answers) are included. Daily lesson material ends with a full page outlining differentiated instruction that includes suggested activities and assignments from the Additional Practice, Reteach, and Extension workbooks. Homework assignments from the Mastery and Beyond workbooks are also included at the end of each section (group of lessons). In addition to lessons with this format, there are special lessons at the beginning and end of each chapter. Chapters begin with a Recall lesson that reviews concepts covered previously that will be built on in the chapter. They end with several lessons that includes a chapter wrap-up, performance task, STEAM Project (cross-disciplinary lessons that sometimes are continued through several chapters), and Chapter Practice (cumulative review over the chapter). These lessons are to be followed by a Chapter Test from the Assessment Guide.
Purchase of the Teacher Guide includes access to the Marshall Cavendish EduHub website. Teacher resources needed for some of the lessons are printable from this website. A Transition Guide is mentioned in the TG. This is a detailed guide for teachers that enables them to transition students into the Singapore math program. The guide provides teachers with background information on important concepts and highlights potential challenges that students might face. It is also a help to teachers who are unfamiliar with the Singapore math approach. This Transition Guide is available digitally for one year for purchasers of the TG.
The Teacher's Guide provides teaching ideas and strategies to facilitate exploration, classroom discussion, and student-centered learning. It also includes ideas for differentiation, ideas for small group learning, and answers with select worked solutions. The front matter provides background on the program structure, lesson and concept development, and an overview of the Readiness-Engagement-Mastery model of learning.
Concepts covered include: Numbers to 1,000,000 (group into and count by hundreds of thousands, tens of thousands, thousands, hundreds, tens, and ones; represent numbers in various contexts; compare and order; write multi-digit numbers in standard, expanded, and word forms; use place-value models). Recognize, write, name, and illustrate mixed numbers and improper fractions in various forms. Fractions (generate equivalent and compare non-equivalent fractions; convert among mixed numbers and improper fractions; understand decimal notation through hundredths as an extension of the base-ten system). Fluently add and subtract multi-digit whole numbers using the standard algorithm. Understand factors and multiples. Multiply a 4-digit whole number by a 1-digit number and multiply two 2-digit numbers using strategies based on place value. Divide a 4-digit number by a 1-digit number with and without a remainder. Solve multi-digit multiplication and division problems. Multiply or divide to solve word problems. Add and subtract like fractions. Solve word problems involving multiplication of a fraction by a whole number. Add and subtract money amounts. Use mental math and estimation strategies to find sums, differences, products, and quotients. Understand prime and composite numbers. Find the greatest common factor and least common multiple. Determine if a whole number is prime or composite. Use a variety of concrete, pictorial, and symbolic models for the four operations with whole numbers, fractions, and decimals. Write and solve equations for multi-step word problems. Determine the missing parts in equations. Identify perpendicular and parallel lines. Understand the relationship between angles and circular measurement. Apply the properties of squares and rectangles. Recognize line symmetry. Solve real-world problems involving length, weight/mass, volume/capacity; converting from larger to smaller units. Find the perimeter and area for squares, rectangles, and composite figures. Construct and interpret line plots. Consult or download the complete Scope and Sequence for a full report of covered topics and concepts.
