Description

The Primer Instruction Manual is essential to use the Math-U-See Primer program. Along with the curriculum sequence and introductory “how-to-use” information that outlines the MUS four-step teaching process, the Instruction Manual includes teaching instruction with example problems, solutions for the worksheets and tests, a glossary, and an index. The instruction is not scripted but is clearly presented and easy to implement. Also required for success with the Math-U-See Primer program are the instructional lesson videos, the Primer Student Workbook, and the Integer Block Kit. The Instructional Videos are available in two formats: Primer DVD or Primer Online Instruction with Video (streaming). The Primer Instruction Manual is sold individually or in a convenient Set with the Integer Blocks. For families who already own the Integer Blocks, we also offer a Set Without Integer Blocks.

Publisher's Description of Math-U-See Primer Instruction Manual

The Primer Instruction Manual includes the resources instructors need to teach this level.

In this level, you and your student will confidently explore math for beginners, becoming familiar with “doing math” and the mastery of concepts and skills. Your student will learn how to write numerals and learn basic counting while being introduced to addition and subtraction, skip counting, geometric shapes, and telling time.

The Math-U-See Primer Instruction Manual is ideal for instructors who already own the Integer Block Kit, have access to the instruction videos, and whose students have the Student Workbook.

Category Description for Math-U-See Primer

Primer is considered the entry level and provides a broad overview and introduction to various math topics which will be mastered in a later level. Teaching children that math is fun and leading them to love math is the goal at this level. With this big picture approach, this course lends itself to children who are beginning to recognize numbers but have not mastered counting to ten verbally or are unable to recognize the numbers 0 to 10. If your child is comfortable with both and is ready for formalized instruction, the Alpha Placement Test is recommended.

The Primer Level familiarizes students with math concepts and skills, while learning to do math the Math-U-See way. Mastery of concepts becomes the expected beginning in the Alpha Level. All lessons follow a similar format – watch the DVD lesson (parent first and then child/parent), work through lesson examples in the instruction manual together, and complete worksheets. No tests are included in the Primer Level.

Children learn to write numerals, addition and subtraction, basic counting, skip counting, geometric shapes, telling time, and they will be introduced to the manipulative block system. It's an introduction to "doing math" the Math-U-See way.
