Description

Come aboard the Mystery Train by Outset Media to test your deduction skills and guess who murdered someone in any one of seven train cars, what weapon was used, and why they wanted to commit such a sneaky crime on a moving train.

Setup: Put together the six train cars, shuffle each deck of cards (suspects, locations, motives, victims, and weapons). Take one card from each deck and put it in a secret place, then deal each player one card from each deck and place the remaining cards in their matching train cars. Car number 6 will not have a deck. Give each player a clue sheet from the provided sleuthing pad and an included pencil. Now you are ready to solve the crime!

Gameplay: Players start by marking their clue sheet to rule out the crime categories that match the cards they received at game setup. Next, take turns rolling the six-sided die, moving your character to the matching train car, and drawing a card from the deck located there to find an additional clue. If another player shares the train car you moved to, ask them questions related to that train location. If there is no one else in the car, you may ask anyone the question. If you move to car number six, which does not relate to any of the five clue categories, ask a question about suspects, locations, motives, victims, or weapons.

Game End: At the end of any player’s turn, they may try to guess the correct crime profile and look at the hidden cards. If they are correct, the game ends and they win! If they are wrong, they must show all their own clues to the other players and immediately lose the game while others continue until someone guesses the correct set of clues.

This game is for 2–6 players, but I strongly recommend playing with 3 or more people, as I feel the clue cards need to be distributed over a larger group for better variability. Expect a game time of 25–40 minutes depending on player count. ~ Marsha
