The Math-U-See Alpha DVD provides parents with an introduction to the MUS vision and methodology before transitioning to the instructional lessons. Each teaching segment is 5-8 minutes in length and focuses on Mr. Demme, who explains and demonstrates the lessons on a large whiteboard with magnetic manipulatives (or drawings). Lessons are clearly explained and easy to follow. The instructional content of the DVD is the same instruction that is included with the Math-U-See Alpha Online Instruction Videos. DVDs are made available for your convenience and are not required with the purchase of the Alpha Set (with Integer Blocks), Alpha Set (no Integer Blocks), or the Math-U-See Alpha Online Instruction with Video.

Major concepts mastered include place value, single-digit addition and subtraction, and solving for the unknown addend. Additional topics include time (hours and minutes), shapes, measurement (length), skip counting by 2s, 5s, 10s and 100s, word problems and understanding halves and fourths.
All lessons follow a similar format – watch the DVD lesson (parent first and then child/ parent), work through lesson examples in the instruction manual together, and complete worksheets. Each lesson concludes with a test. Cumulative unit tests are scheduled regularly to assure students retain previous teaching. A final test concludes the course and covers all concepts taught.Details
