Description

When it comes to phonics aides, there's a card for that! Designed to help with both teaching and reinforcement in the Jolly Phonics program, these sets of cards correspond to Student Books 1-3. Cards are housed in a sturdy (and efficient) cardboard box.

Letter Sound Cards – 58 cards (4 3/8"x 3 ¾"). 42 letter sound cards plus 16 alternative spelling cards. Letters are based on 1 ½" middle sections. Unfortunately, the back side of the card is blank. I would have preferred a label here indicating the card's letter/sound.

Regular Word Blending Cards – 88 cards (6 7/8"x 3"). Letters are based on 5/8" middle sections. A dot is below each letter or letter grouping that makes one sound. In other words, three dots indicate there are three sounds in a word – such as ant, sing, shut. A label on the back of each indicates the group or groups the sounds are from.

Alternative Word Blending Cards – 80 cards (6 7/8"x 3"). Letters are based on 5/8" middle sections. Dots below each letter or letter grouping indicate the number of sounds in a word. A label on the back of the card indicates which alternative spelling is represented by the word.

Tricky Words – 72 cards (6 7/8"x 3"). Print letters are based on 5/8" middle sections. There is one card for each tricky word. A label on the backside indicates the number of the tricky word (i.e. Tricky word 64).
Publisher's Description of Jolly Phonics Cards

Our Jolly Phonics Cards (in print letters) contain four sets of flashcards in one box, suitable for whole-class use:

Set 1 – 60 Letter sound flashcards covering the 42 letter sounds plus the alternative spellings of the vowel sounds.

Set 2 – 88 Regular word blending cards. Dots under each sound help children to blend the sounds into words.

Set 3 – 80 Alternative word blending cards with the alternative spelling of vowels. Dots under each sound also remind children that two letters can make one sound.

Set 4 – 72 Tricky word cards. Numbered in recommended teaching order.

Category Description for Jolly Phonics K4 (ages 4+)

In Jolly Phonics K4, children use multisensory methods such as catchy songs, delightful stories, and fun actions to learn the 42 letter sounds, then move from single sounds to blended letter sounds. Sounds are taught first (before letter names) and in a specific order that allows children to start reading as soon as possible. Resources used at this level include revised Finger Phonics Readers (with new illustrations and information panels for parents), Phonics Workbooks, Decodable Readers, Flashcards, Phonics Cards, and Handwriting Books. These resources provide a gradual way to build a great foundation for learning to read and learning proper letter formation. You can use the materials for this age as a precursor to Jolly Phonics K5 or another phonics program. Because of the spiral nature of Jolly Learning products, children do not need to complete the K4 program before moving to Jolly Phonics or Jolly Literacy. There is no teacher’s book at this level; although, guidance is provided within the workbooks and readers.
