This course was developed for children in 1st-4th grades who are still becoming familiar with English grammar and wish to learn Latin at a slower pace and learn English grammar in the process. Its goal is to teach and reinforce an understanding of the basic parts of speech while introducing Latin. It benefits the student by teaching him half of the vocabulary in Latina Christiana and grounding him in the fundamental concepts of English grammar, the key to Latin study.
The grammar lessons are set forth in a form appropriate for primary grades. The review lessons that follow each unit provide the consistent review needed to master Latin. With clear explanations and easy-to-read lessons in a two-color format, Prima Latina is perfect for those teachers and parents who would like to start their students on an early study of Christian Latin.

The 25 lessons in Prima Latina cover seven parts of speech, two tenses, 125 vocabulary words, numbers 1 through 10, basic constellations, and introductions to conjugations, declensions, and derivatives. Each lesson is comprised of grammar skills, five vocabulary words, a practical Latin phrase, and a line of prayer. Also included are five review lessons, tests, an appendix, and answer key.
The consumable Student Book provides instructional material plus exercises. Teacher Manual contains student pages with answers filled in. The CD includes a pronunciation guide, prayers, and songs. The DVD Set includes 3 DVDs with lesson presentations. Pronunciation audio and Instructional Videos are also available in digital streaming format, and these are especially helpful for parents or teachers who do not know Latin. The Copybook provides handwriting practice in New American Cursive, complementing each lesson. To reinforce grammar concepts taught in Prima Latina (as well as proper sentence structure and mechanics), the Introduction to English Grammar Student Workbook and Teacher Key may be used alongside.
This course is designed to precede the Latina Christiana program.
