Published in 2022 by Pegasus Spiele, Carnegie takes place in the late 1800s, when businessmen like Andrew Carnegie were building new enterprises and industries in North America. Play as one of these entrepreneurs, competing to hire employees, manage departments, use research and development to plan projects/products, and build transportation routes to distribute these products and sell them. Making donations can also bring more points at the end of the game.
There are 20 rounds in this game, distributed among four different actions which correlate with the company’s departments of Human Resources, Company Management, Construction, and Research & Development. The first player for each round chooses everyone’s action and then the first player moves to the right for the next round. This provides a strategic challenge as actions taken in one department affect the ability to do an action in another. For example, if you do not have adequate personnel available for the next Construction action, it will be more difficult to build distribution networks linking cities across the country.
The game ends after 20 rounds, and points are earned for buildings in cities and their connections to each of the four main cities, donation goals, active employees, department building, and R&D projects. The player with the most points wins the game! For 1-4 players with a 90 to 120-minute game time. Solo rules are included. ~ Marsha
