Key historical people and events (with dates to memorize) include Abraham, Tutankhamen, David, Kingdom of Israel Dividing, Babylonian captivity, Buddha, Confucius, Golden Age of Athens, Alexander the Great, Julius Caesar, Augustus Caesar, and Jesus Christ. Note that this volume stops at Jesus' resurrection and may align differently with other chronological history texts which stop typically at the fall of the Roman empire. Included with the purchase of the Reader is an in-text, user-unique, online access code to download the course-required digital PDF Companion Guide. The Mystery of History, Volume I is written from a Christian, young-earth, perspective, teaching children to see Gods hand throughout history and how the Gospel of Jesus is the mystery behind all of history! Written in a conversational style, many lessons are presented in the form of mini-biographies, integrating fascinating stories with the events of the time. Covering creation to the resurrection, this curriculum is arranged by quarters and weeks; each quarter begins with an Around the World summary of events to introduce the time period; lessons progress chronologically, with each week having 3 lessons, a pretest, review activities (including Memory Cards), and exercise or quiz. This book integrates the text with write-in activity pages. These activity pages are reproducible for in-family use, or students can write directly on the worksheets.

The Student Reader contains 108 exciting lessons in a colorful, easy-to-hold hardback. Divided into 36 weeks, the reader is a standalone world history text for all ages to enjoy. But for those who wish to delve deeper, we have included a download code in each book for a digital version of The Mystery of History Companion Guide, Volume I. The reproducible resources of the Companion Guide, also written by Linda Lacour Hobar, contain familiar and popular components of The Mystery of History series: pretests; hands-on activities and research projects for younger, middle, and older students; memory card ideas; bi-weekly quizzes and exercises; timeline helps; maps; supplemental book lists; and more.

Learning ancient history from a Bible-centered perspective is still the focus of the 3rd edition of Mystery of History, Vol. 1 However, with the 3rd edition, the format has been updated to be similar to Vol. IV. The biggest change is that it is changing from a paperback book to a hardcover with full color illustrations.  Short, interesting readings show how history fits together. What famous Bible figure lived when the Trojan Horse was built? Who lived in North America around the time that Jeremiah wrote Lamentations? Historically accurate with better chronological detail based on the work of James Ussher, the book tells you who walked the earth when and helps put each life in perspective around important events that happened worldwide. Mapping exercises with answers and simplified timeline directions are included along with suggestions for fun activities. Quarterly reviews and semester tests are provided. All student materials is reproducible for family use. Although this is intended for 4-8 graders, it is easily adapted to both older and younger students for an all-in-one history book. Assignments are included for all grade levels.
