My young children enjoyed this reader when we studied the gold rush and Western expansion. Follow a family as they travel from Missouri to California to search for what their hearts desire: gold. Or could it be more? We also enjoyed the time-period music with lyrics sprinkled throughout the book, such as, "There's Gold in California" and "I'll Make you a Map."
