This book is part of a series that includes French, Japanese, Mandarin, and Spanish. As a parent/teacher, I would let kids dabble in all 4 languages! It’s a little language buffet! The pronunciation guidance is quite nicely done. I was a French Teacher and another Consultant lived in China; we both scrutinize language materials that come our way carefully. You learn some background of the language, get general pronunciation help (particularly important with Mandarin), and then on to vocabulary. I liked the words selected and how the pages look with bold, colorful graphics. I think a middle-schooler would like to try out these books. Cultural notes make things relatable and interesting. There are greetings, maps, body, clothing, opposites (adjectives), family, kitchen and loads more! Each 2-page spread has a different theme. I like this series for middle grade students to try on different languages in a fun and casual way prior to selecting one to study for more formal high school credit. Not consumable. Get the whole series!
