We have all heard about drill work in math but is there such thing as drill work in Language Arts? Emma Serl’s Primary Language Lessons is a drill book for English Language skills. A simple, softcover, one-book approach to teaching and practicing early language skills. In Charlotte Mason style, you will work side-by-side with your student, through narration exercises, short reading selections, picture studies, passage memorizations, observation and beginning composition skills. Intended for young learners’ so selections are brief, and lessons are short and to the point. Reading is at ~490 Lexile level. There is a companion Teacher’s Guide that provides extended activities. The Teacher’s Guide is not a necessary component and is more of an aid if needed. There are 164 brief lessons in the Primary level. 148 pages, softcover. ~Rebecca

Description
Primary and Intermediate Language Lessons were written by Emma Serl and have been well-loved by homeschoolers for decades. Reprints of texts used in the early 1900s, the Primary and Intermediate Language Lessons contain black/white period illustrations (incorporated into the lessons), memorization, classic literature excerpts, narration, dictation, copy work and composition. Instruction is self-contained. These are very simple to use - just open up and go. Lessons are presented in small, manageable pieces with many exercises done orally, making these an attractive choice for the student as well. There are 164 lessons in Primary Language Lessons and 301 lessons in the Intermediate Language Lessons.
We also offer helpful, but optional Teacher Guides. The Primary and Intermediate Language Lessons Teacher Guides provide instructional information for the teacher (i.e. these words are prepositions, words that show position, direction, etc.) and answers as well as extended activity suggestions and directions (i.e. create a preposition mobile by...). Teacher aids include reproducible grading rubrics, writing and dictation worksheets, calendar (Primary), envelope, story map (Intermediate) and Venn diagram masters.
In the tradition of Emma Serl, Advanced Language Lessons is a reprint of the 1917 Aldine Third Language Book, with edits and updates only as necessary. Instructions are written directly to the student, but assume a teacher or parent is present. With an emphasis on effective written communication, grammar coverage is through and comprehensive although there are few practice exercises. No answer key is available for Advanced Language Lessons.
