Description

The fourth edition of Short Lessons in U.S. History has a very straightforward presentation for students. Starting right off the bat with making sure students know how to utilize and read a map, brief overviews start at about the year 1003 and continue to year 2005. This text was published in 2006, meaning that information and dates do not reflect current events past the year ’05. This would make a great companion to a U.S. study, providing activities, biographical highlights, and critical thinking discussions. When students are asked to “activate prior knowledge,” they are given comprehension questions to look for in their reading . There are 30 biographical briefs for students to get to know key people in U.S. history. The critical thinking questions presented require students to think outside of their comfort zone and present many different views around topics, policies, and morals. While certainly not comprehensive, the text is interesting, easy to understand, and inexpensive. Maps are extremely clear. A glossary and answer key are provided in the text. 230 pgs, paperback. ~Rebecca
