While visiting Italy, you discover Mille Fiori – a decorative glass made by artisans. It is created by fusing multicolored glass canes together, cutting them crosswise, joining them into new groups, embedding the groups in transparent glass, and blowing the resultant mass into a desired shape.
Relive the crafts
and colors of Mille Fiori in this card-drafting, pattern-building game, which
challenges players to place diamond-shaped gems in their color on different
areas on the main board that represent the locations on the island where this
decorative glass is made. These areas are: workshops containing raw material for glass manufacturing; the islander’s residences; the townspeople and their symbols; commodity trade shops where products are sold; and the harbor, where the glass is shipped to other countries.
The placement of tiles in these areas is driven by cards, which represent all the locations where tiles can be placed. By choosing the best cards in a draft, players maximize the placement of their gems to gain the most points. There are instant points, bonus points, and extra card-play actions that are rewarded based on where you can place your color gems. Timing these placements based on available spaces when you draft your card and where other gems are already located determines how many points may be available in any given turn. The game ends when either one player has placed all their gems or when the card draw pile is empty, and the player with the most points wins!
Mille Fiori is a 2023 Mensa Select Award–winning game that plays in 60-90 minutes and can be enjoyed by 2-4 players. I have played this wonderful game several times and look forward to keeping it in my game rotation and sharing it with new groups. ~ Marsha
