Description

The pace of cursive review in this level matches the curriculum’s handwriting goal: fast and neat. Each lesson guides students to practice multiple capital and lowercase letters in complete sentences. Some assignments provide paragraphs in print for students to rewrite in cursive. This level provides more student-created writing possibilities than any previous grade level. Once students have reached a level of writing fluency, they are encouraged to develop their own handwriting style. At the end of this book, 10 short and engaging lessons provide opportunities to write creatively using provided prompts. The longer assignments included in the Extra Practice section recommend using the Writing Journal F. Use the Writer’s Notebook (found at the back of the student book) for the lessons in weeks 19-27. The assignments in this section add a variety of short writing tasks such as character sketches, complete paragraphs, short stories, and more. These engaging tasks enable students to see writing as an enjoyable activity. Vertical format, consumable, 94 pgs, pb. ~ Ruth

Can-Do Cursive gives students opportunities to develop fluency with cursive practice.  Activities reinforce grammar skills including punctuation, capitalization rules, and the parts of speech. Students practice independent writing with poetry, diary and journal notes, book reviews and thank you notes. Can-Do Cursive can be used in grade 5, grade 6, or even in middle school based on instructional needs. Can-Do Cursive 2025 also includes:

  • Step-by-step letter formations that are easy to teach.
  • Vertical cursive style that is easy to read and write.
  • Left-friendly design with perfect letter models.
  • Pause and Practice pages for progress monitoring.

The goal for this level is achieving “fast and neat” writing. After students work through a few lessons reviewing lowercase and capital letters, they’ll come to “Pause and Practice” pages. These pages provide unique guidance to help students create their own sentences while practicing penmanship (short lists of possible vocabulary are provided). Students will practice developing their own style, creating their own signatures, and reading others’ cursive handwriting. This level helps students engage more independently and feel empowered to create. The assignments in the Extra Practice section recommend using the Writing Journal F for space for the longer assignments. ~Ruth
