Grammar Made More Gooder from The Baran Method incorporates grammar into the context of writing over 30 short lessons. This one book is for a range of writing levels between grades 2 and 12. The goal is to make grammar understandable, not something to memorize separately from your composition. The author focuses on the most common grammatical and mechanical issues for writers. For example, lesson 1 covers When to Capitalize. Instructions show a brief definition, followed by clear examples of when one does and does not capitalize. You see some common mistakes presented as bullet points and small illustrations show more “do” and “don’t” examples. The next page shows some tricky examples (seasons, Mom/mom, directions). I like the section where the students ask themselves some helpful questions. Good reminders to ask as you are composing! Then you have 5 practice sentences immediately followed by the answers. Cover them up, do the practice, and check your work right there on the spot! End of the lesson – 2 pages did the trick.
