This Letters and Sounds for Me book provides children with extra practice recognizing letter sounds and then practice reading and writing words. Brief instructions are included at the top of each page. Different activities provide practice writing letters and reviewing the sounds the letters make. For example, students might say the sound and then mark the picture that does not start with that sound. To differentiate vowel sounds, students will circle the word that explains the picture. You may read a provided list of words to your student so that they can practice listening and spelling skills. This practice book starts with beginning sounds and then introduces letters in an order that students can immediately form words. Ten lessons will cover beginning sounds, then 6 lessons introduce short vowels in the middle of words. The last 4 lessons end with /s/, -sh, -th, -ch, and -ck. Both decodable words and “heart words” (those that students should learn by heart) are practiced. “Heart” words are introduced every few pages. Other words are decoded. The back of the book provides a lowercase letter formation chart and phonics skills charts for practicing the sounds, with example words. 96 pages, softcover. ©2026 ~Ruth
