Have you ever had a game of Catan where the robber has simply refused to move from one of your most important resources? Ever built a road that led to nothingness, because an opponent built in a location first? Perhaps you needed a resource card that another player had, but who refused to trade it. Well, with Helpers of Catan, you can allay these concerns should you choose to add them into either the base game or Seafarers. Each of these helpers provides a special, minor bonus akin to the examples described above. Jean, for example, can mimic a 2:1 trade port for a turn. These helper cards provide a new layer of challenge to the game, but beware- your opponents will be using them for their own gain!

Catan, formerly The Settlers of Catan, is the perfect blend of strategy and luck. What really makes this game unique is that the game board is different every time you play which keeps the game fresh and the strategy ever-changing. The primary contention in the game comes from settling around various resource tiles. Each tile on the board represents one of five different resources. Number tokens, ranging from 2-12, are placed on each tile. The game begins with an initial settlement phase, where each player gets to place two settlements on the corners of the resource hexagons. Any player who has settled on a tile whose number is rolled receives resources.
Each player’s turn typically consists of
three phases:
- Rolling the dice to produce resources
- Trading for needed resources
- Building using the resource cards
The object of the game is to be the first player to reach 10 points, which are accumulated through developments like settlements, cities, roads, armies, etc. There are many different routes to victory, and those who conquer them will successfully settle the isle of Catan. For 3-4 players, with game extensions allowing for up to 2 additional players. Game time is approximately 60 minutes. Expansion sets require Catan: The Game to play.
