This is a timeless Christmas tale that many readers may be familiar with; however, Progeny Press’ A Christmas Carol Study Guide leads readers deeper into a literary and personal analysis of Charles Dickens’ work. Sections cover each stave (verse/stanza) of the story. Vocabulary lessons start each section, followed by comprehension questions and deeper thinking analysis questions, and end with scriptural connections. Literary skills covered in this guide include tone, juxtaposition, foreshadowing, setting, theme, allusion, humor, hyperbole, dramatic structure, and more. Prereading Activities provide context before reading. Post-reading final projects and essay prompts help readers make further connections to the text and showcase what they have learned. A catered list of age-appropriate Further Resources is provided. Answers are in the back on perforated pages for easy removal. 57 pages, softcover. ~Rebecca

Description
Ebenezer Scrooge is content with his life of work and petty self-interest — or he would be if he were content with anything. He is unfriendly to his nephew, cruel to his employee, and verbally abusive to charity collectors. On Christmas Eve, the ghost of his old partner, Jacob Marley, appears to Scrooge to warn him to change his ways. Bound in chains and tormented by his mistakes, Marley tells Scrooge that he will be visited by three Spirits.
These Spirits offer Scrooge a chance to escape the same fate as Marley, but will Scrooge listen to their lesson of redemption and reawaken to the commandment, "Love your neighbor as yourself?"
