For such a young country, American authors sure have a lot to say! Divided into 4 units: short story, novel, essay, and poetry, you are getting a broad survey of American Lit in one high school year. Many of the short stories and poems come from a required anthology (part of our sets). You will read from well-known authors and likely be introduced to some new favorites.
In addition to the readings in the Course Book, you will need 5 books and a Bible. (Scripture passages in the course come from the New American Standard Bible.) These novels and anthologies can be purchased a la carte, purchased in our Book Package (LLTLGA) for the course, or in our Complete Set (LLCPGA).

The American Literature course contains units on short story, novels, essay (expository, descriptive, & narrative), and poetry.
The student will study a variety of genres, some excerpts and some full-length works. These include: The Mentor Book of American Poets, Great American Short Stories, The Pearl, The Old Man and the Sea, and The Red Badge of Courage. You can purchase the five books (3 novels plus 2 collections) as a package, buy them separately, or source them from a local library.
