Publisher's Description of God's Great Covenant: New Testament 1 Student Book

The Bible tells us God's story. It has many parts, but from beginning to end it is one story with a promise throughout: "I will be your God, and you will be My people." Through this story, we learn who God is, who mankind is, how the world came to be, and how God worked through history to bring redemption to His people. The God's Great Covenant series will narrate this story for your student in an engaging and unique way.

In God's Great Covenant New Testament 1: The Gospels, students follow the story of Jesus, the Messiah and King, as He is born and fulfills all of God's promises. Each of the four units in this text emphasizes one of the names of Jesus: the Son of Man, God's Servant, the Messiah, and the Son of God. This book is a comprehensive and heartfelt study of the Gospels, and many parents and teachers will find themselves learning along with their students.

The student edition contains 36 weekly chapters divided into 4 themed units. Each chapter includes the story of that week's Bible verses, presented at a clear, elementary reading level, and a memory page with a Bible verse, key facts chart, and vocabulary. A "Fulfillment of Prophecy" section encourages students and teachers to discuss prophecies fulfilled in the Old Testament in relation to the particular passage being taught that week, while a thought-provoking "Think About It" question asks students to consider how to relate to God in their own lives. Worksheets and a weekly quiz are provided to ensure mastery. Extensive introductions cover the historical, cultural, and geographical setting of the ancient world. Unit reviews contain a memory verse worksheet, a devotional guide, and a fun short story of life

Unit Themes Presented in God's Great Covenant New Testament 1: The Gospels

Unit I: Jesus, the Son of Man, Has Come—To Live Among His People.Jesus is the only person ever born who is completely God and completely man. All throughout the Old Testament, the Lord God repeated the words, "I will be your God, and you will be My people." Now God, in the person of Jesus, had come to live among His people. This is the Jesus whose story is told in the gospel books of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John.

Unit II: Jesus, God's Servant, Has Come—To Proclaim the Good News. Jesus grew up far away from palaces and royalty, even though He was a King. He had no servants to wait on Him. Jesus' way to be a King was to be a servant, and by His example, He showed His disciples how to serve God and love people.

Unit III: Jesus, the Messiah, Has Come—To Teach About God's Kingdom. Though Jesus performed some miracles during these months, He spent most of His time teaching His disciples about the kingdom of God. More and more, He revealed what it meant that He was the Christ, the Son of the Living God. The path of following Jesus was getting harder and lonelier, but it was also becoming life-changing. In Jesus' future, there would be death on a cross, and in the disciples' futures, there would also be suffering that they each would have to endure if they were to follow Him.

Unit IV: Jesus, the Son of God, Has Come—To Conquer Sin and Death. Jesus paid the penalty of sin and purchased eternal life for His people. He was willingly crucified, but three days later Jesus was alive again. He had accomplished the purpose for which He had been born—to have victory over sin and death.
