Ok I must be honest I didn't have any interest at all in learning or teaching botany to my kids! I had ordered some of the other apologia texts (zoology interests my kids a lot) with their corresponding journals When I looked at the journals as the school year approached I realized they were a bit intense for my 5 6 and 7 year old Too late for returns I ordered apologia's botany book with the junior level journals and with a disappointed heart just saved my other apologia for the future I worried it might be a drag and that I personally wouldn't get motivated enough to teach it! We are four months into this Apologia Botany and Junior Journal and let's not even call it a textbook! Science never had it so good! The writing style of the author is so warm and personal I think sometimes my kids think I'm just talking to them about the subject instead of reading to them! When they cannot tell the difference between reading and natural conversation that's a plus to be noted indeed I am thoroughly impressed in every way with this book What quality! The journal activities and hands on projects are doable and believe me I can be pretty quickly turned off by a complex endeavor during our busy days Not only are the activities doable they are very useful for fortifying the learning (not just silly little crafts) If a curriculum can get my kids AND ME sincerely interested in botany it's impressively well done Period Thanks Apologia! I'm so glad I have more of these books awaiting us in my curriculum closet!

I have often joked over the last few years that I needed a very special science curriculum Not only did I need one that was scientifically accurate and presented from a Christian perspective but I also needed one that would be suitable for us to do as a family AND one that would either teach for me or motivate me enough to actually include science in our routine!I know I know my husband is a Biology/ General Science teacher! How could I not like science? Why do you think we got married? He helped me in the sciences and I wrote his papers for him! :) Just kidding! (sort of!)I don't think I ever had a science teacher who spoke the ENGLISH language they all spoke some unfamiliar tongue that I did NOT understand! Consequently I have had a lack of motivation interest whatever in the area of teaching science This is not something I am proud of especially since all four (3 youngest esp) of my children LOVE anything having to do with scienceThis year we started using Jeannie Fulbright's Exploring Creation series EUREKA! WE'VE GOT IT! All four of my qualifications have been met I am actually doing science and understanding it! :) The lessons are manageable and there are corresponding notebook activities with each section Students do narrations nature study activities and experiments (which are very simply laid out using household materials) Also the book is very affordable (you only need one per family)I won't ramble forever but I do want to give an example I have never understood the concept of photosynthesis I knew it involved some series of letters and numbers Csomething + H2O etc However thanks to Ms Fulbright the kids and I can have a discussion about the way a plant makes food!I asked the girls to write a paragraph explaining photosynthesis in their own words Here is what they wrote:Sarah- "Photosynthesis is a process where the plant makes food It pulls in CO2 and water and makes sugar and lets air out"Hannah- "Photosynthesis is a process in which the plants' leaves make food for the plant The plant takes light water and CO2 to make sugar to feed the plant when it does this it also makes oxygen for us to breathe"

Teaching Science is FUN
My two home schooled 3rd graders and I are truly enjoying science this year! I have always used a curriculum in a box and was disappointed with science. Why did I never take a serious look at this series? I am so happy we've found it. I'll order the next book once we're done with this one!

We are absolutely enjoying this text! Not a day goes by when I don't learn something new and the workbooks that complement the text book are genuinely adored by my girls 10 and 7. This text encourages us to praise God for His provision of plants, even though I cannot successfully grow one :)

Great book!!!
I like the way this book is laid out. Since fall was in full swing when we got started... we went to the lesson on leaves fairly quickly without any loss in continuity.

Loving and learning!
I purchased this with my second grader's curriculum. It's my favorite class. We are both learning a ton about the plant world. I combined it with the junior botany notebook. The notebook has a schedule laid out for you. Typically we do two days a week. I read the lessons to her as they are rather lengthy, but well written to keep her attention. There are coloring pages for her while I read. This course is rather time consuming for two days, but time well spent and could definitely be spread out during the week. It is based on a creation point of view and so fascinating to learn. There are many different projects/activities for each lesson to instill what they've learned. I highly recommend this study.

What a wonderful Christian resource! This was the first time we've used this "series"wish we had done so a year or two earlier Our 9 and 11 year olds went through it and I believe it has enough depth to span up to 8th grade just require appropriate responses on the notebook pages(Even at the 6th grade level our son gave more information than there was room for on the supplied pages) I enjoyed it and the kids both have really wonderful botany notebooks and a story/book they each wrote that we will long cherish! Gratefully Heidi

We have used other programs by these folks and have learned a lot We've just begun this one and have really enjoyed it It can be made meaty enough for older kids and it can be followed by my youngest as well I love these type of programs where the whole family is learning together

After hearing all the rave reviews of this curriculum I decided to check it out for myself"Exploring Creation With Botany" is part of the "Exploring Creation" series authored by Jeannie Fulbright a former public school teacher now homeschooling mother The science series is based on the educational philosophy of Charlotte Mason The book itself is organized like a basic elementary science text however it tends to read in a conversational tone with the teacher talking to the student about a particular science topic At the end of each section is a science activity to do and a notebook page to make Since we had already done these science activities we chose the "Christian Kids Explore" series by Bright Ideas Press to build upon the foundation of scientific knowledge our child has already acquired Of all the "Exploring Creation" series I think this book is the most technical so I would recommend saving it for when your child is older

We used this book this year with my daughters ages 6 8 & 10 The activities are very good and demonstrate the material well without being overly involved It is fairly easy to adapt to various ages since it uses the notebook approach My 6 year old makes her drawings and I help her label them writing down what she says The 8 year old does her own brief writing and I require more in-depth written explanations from the 10 year old *Very little* teacher prep is necessary It is a little intimidating at first glance since it uses plenty of scientific/botany jargon like corolla gymnosperm coniferophyta etc However the terms are introduced thoroughly and one at a time and just conversational review on our outdoor exploring time has brought them into my kids' vocabulary Excellent God-honoring mind-stretching friendly text book I wouldn't hesitate to turn a 10+ child loose with this on their own (instead of me reading it aloud)
