I myself have always had a problem memorizing Bible verses, so this has even helped me! My 5-year-old loves it when it's time to learn a new verse from this CD and our toddler dances along. The verses are put to a variety catchy tunes that have us singing them all week. I like that the verses start with a new letter each week, giving us another memory aid. A "All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." B "Believe in the Lord Jesus ..." and so on.

Setting the Scriptures to music is a time-honored and effective way to help children hide God’s Word in their hearts. I still remember singing Bible verses with my mother at our kitchen table. As a mother myself now, I was so grateful to find the beautifully produced CD “Sing the Word from A to Z,” by a gifted homeschooling family, the Harrows. The parents are professional musicians with a clear love of the Bible and a desire to help parents teach their children to memorize, love and meditate on the Scriptures.
“Sing the Word from A to Z” contains 26 songs, each a Bible verse beginning with another letter of the alphabet. Each track averages 1-2 minutes playing time (tracks 27-54 are instrumental only) and is presented with a memorable melody, either an original tune or a well-known tune in the public domain. The Harrows’ young children and their friends sing the songs, although you will hear adult voices featured as well.
The Scripture verses are well-chosen to present important Gospel themes, such as “All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23); “Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved” (Acts 16:31); and “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever” (Hebrews 13:8). Verses were also chosen that speak directly to children: “Children obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord” (Colossians 3:20); and “Even a child is known by his actions, by whether his conduct is pure and right” (Proverbs 20:11). The verses represent a diversity of Old and New Testament books and several translations are used: the NIV, Amplified Bible, KJV and NKJV.
The music is marvelous. All verses are repeated three times, a great help in memorization. Piano, keyboards, trumpet, flute, piccolo and guitar are prominent, but the songs vary in style, some upbeat and others more meditative. “Zion hears and is glad” (Psalm 97:8-9) has a Jewish flavor; “Quench not the Spirit” (I Thessalonians 5:19) has a Native American feel in its measured percussion; “Marvel not, you must be born again” (John 3:7) is cleverly set to a slightly altered version of “Happy Birthday” and the Handel echoes in “Unto us a child is born” (Isaiah 9:6-7) will have you on your feet!
We listened to this CD each morning for months during my daughter’s kindergarten year, and we both loved it. Beautiful music and thoughtfully chosen Scripture set this CD head and shoulders above most inspirational music produced for children.
