Multi-skills practice
Language Lessons for a Living Education 2, written by Kristen Pratt, is an all inclusive (includes a recommended list of reading books) 2nd grade language arts course. Phonics, sentence formation, reading comprehension, spelling, types of words (antonyms, synonyms, etc.), worksheets, quizzes, and dictionary-building are a sampling of the course work. Students will be practicing independent reading of age/ability-appropriate books which the parent keeps track of on a chart. Over the school year, scripture memorization, writing, oral narration, review, and vocabulary are practiced/retained.

I love that the “Tell Your Story” sections include illustration boxes for your student to add illustrations to his/her writing. The choice of font used throughout the book draws your child’s attention to the work or question at hand. Overall, it’s an aesthetically appealing book and continues to build on learned concepts.

We’ve used a variety of language arts curricula over the years with our children and there are aspects of each that I would love to see pulled together into one book. While this book is intended to stand alone, I’m going to use it (Language Lessons for a Living Education 3) alongside our current language arts course (AAR) and see how things progress side by side. I can see my son enjoying the format.

Master Books publishes fantastic homeschool books, such as this, that include various facets of daily subjects under the umbrella of a single topic. I love that so many sides of language learning are included in a single lesson/unit. One book=multi-practice of skills.

Wonderful, thorough and fun
This curriculum is fantastic. It exceeded my expectations and I was expecting it to be great. It uses a variety of exercises to practice needed skills. I like the boxes for the spelling words and that it includes the days weeks and months of the year. There are many opportunities to write and create drawings to go with the stories. I love the picture studies. The artwork throughout is charming and does not overwhelm the page. My son likes when the page is not cluttered and distracting so this program is perfect for him.
I like how it still has a predictable flow to each week while still having variety of exercises.

This really is a complete language arts program. Reading, writing, spelling, plus the Charlotte Mason like activities with copy work, narration and picture study. The writing lessons tie into what was learned that week. I feel this a thorough curriculum with a gentle approach. My son really like the little activities that were throughout the book like word searches, make your own word search, coloring and create your own dictionary.

Another component of this curriculum is the resources at the back of the book. There are activities and games suggested to reinforce various topics. I found them to be fun and engaging while not being too complicated. There are also options for extra spelling practice and copywork.

I have heard good things about this series and want to try a new program. The program we were using just wasn't fitting our family.

I ordered one to review for my struggling learner and it looks like something he can handle. So I ordered another for his brother to do alongside him. The lessons are short enough I think we can manage two or three a day without feeling overloaded!

Trying this because we love the Living Education math!

Going to add this with All About Reading 2 and All About Spelling 2 for my dyslexic daughter. We used Easy Grammar 1 for 1st grade she has done fine with it and likes it. However, I like the highlighted sections for the kids to read along with the parent.

We are trying out this new curriculum because we enjoyed the Math Lessons for a Living Education by Masterbooks. We tried out the sample of week one and my daughter enjoyed it. This curriculum requires parent participation, which may be a downside for some. Personally, we enjoy snuggling on the couch, reading the story and then completing the quick lesson. The content is lesson rigorous then other curriculums, but I find that it builds my child's confidence, and promotes a love of learning.

This looks like a lovely Charlotte Mason Language Arts program giving the right amount of LA for the age group

I chose this curriculum because of the Charlotte Mason style lessons. I love that God is woven into all of it. The lessons are short but still covering what is needed throughout the year.

Does this student book have a teacher guide? I'm struggling to find it!
A shopper on Sep 14, 2018
BEST ANSWER: There is no teacher guide - only the single course book. There is a daily schedule at the beginning and teacher helps at the end of the book as well as teacher notes throughout.
