Description

In the early 1900's, New York was just entering its Progressive Era. This was a time of population growth and also a period when many iconic buildings were constructed. In this game, players find themselves in Manhattan, in a landscape devoid of buildings, tasked with the job of helping create a new landscape consisting of multi-storied buildings and skyscrapers. Using two worker pawns and four different role cards per game that give players specific rules for movement and building, cards are randomly dealt to each player. These cards also have numbers on them that will determine which player holds the Statue of Liberty that round, along with the order in which players will take their turns. The player with the highest number card in play obtains the Statue of Liberty. Turn order is then determined by the lowest played card number first and then in sequential order. During a player's turn, they will both move and build while following the instructions of the worker card that they have chosen to use that round. Players can move to adjacent squares either on the same level, up one building level or down any number of levels. After moving, players may construct one building level (or more if allowed by their card) on any adjacent square or building to the worker that they moved. There are two roads to victory in this game. 1. A player moves a worker pawn to the third story of a building. 2. In the role of the Engineer, a player builds a rooftop on a three-story building. The catch is that in order to win, the player must also be in possession of the Statue of Liberty that round. This is an easy-to-learn game that moves quickly and is strategic in different ways. Players must learn to best coordinate the order of card play, try to block opponents from landing on squares that may be to their advantage, try to isolate or block opponents so that they cannot move their worker pawn and, of course, leverage their own cards and worker board placement to their advantage. For 2-5 players with a 15 to 30-minute playtime.
