Publisher Description:
Strep throat! Hay fever! Influenza! The world is a dangerous place for a red blood cell just trying to get her deliveries finished. Fortunately, she’s not alone… she’s got a whole human body’s worth of cells ready to help out! The mysterious white blood cell, the buff and brash killer T cell, the nerdy neuron, even the cute little platelets — everyone’s got to come together if they want to keep you healthy!
The Cells at Work! series is a Japanese manga collection written and illustrated by Akane Shimizu. It features the anthropomorphized cells of a human body. Rated PG-13 (T 13+), the action is plenty gory as the immune cells use their knives and spears to massacre invading bacteria, and they often end up blood-soaked after a good fight. Together, the dedicated cells will tackle everything from pneumonia to everyday allergies, and it’s all in a day’s work! Those who have trouble with technical and scientific terms (of which many are included) might struggle a bit at times, and if you're a hardcore student of cell biology, this won't serve as a complete replacement for a well-written textbook. If you simply need, however, some help understanding the basics of cell functions or are merely curious about the inner workings of the body on a microscopic level, this could well be the manga you've been waiting for! Disclaimer – there are some cursing references in the text. ~Amber
