Product Description:

Survey major American art movements (and their world influences) from just prior to the Civil War through the Vietnam era in these 16 lessons (1-year course). Lessons provide a palette of styles, including Romanticism, Art Nouveau, Fauvism, Modernism, Abstract Expressionism, Pop, and Psychedelic. The author also includes atypical studies such as American Slave art, projects spurred by the WPA and Federal One, as well as non-American influencers such as Picasso, the Third Reich’s definition of “acceptable” and “unacceptable” art, and more.

Start your study with the visual timeline, aligning world and artistic events with a list of student projects and additional readings (This study aligns with Beautiful Feet’s US and World History). The timeline also allows you to easily align with an American history curriculum of your choice. Projects will include block printing, pop art, illuminated letters, fabric quilt blocks, and more, with pictured examples of professional and student art.

Each lesson overviews a specific art movement (including learning objectives); sidebars provide additional and pertinent information such as web links, quotations, Guiding Research Questions (open-ended) and more to help explore artists and styles. Finally, students will create at least one art piece from options provided (Or complete them all!). The spiral-bound book includes inserted directions (and a QR code) for accessing the KnoodleU Resource Center (for tutorials, printable resources, lesson plans, supplementary videos, and quizzes/mid-term exams-with answers). This study requires a supplemental DK book, entitled Art. Includes 64 lay-flat pages.

Publisher Description:

Drawing on History is an interactive approach to art appreciation and art history, designed and written for homeschool or independent high school students, individually or in a group setting. Drawing on History, Pre Civil War - Vietnam covers one year of required high school fine arts credits, giving the student an overview of many of the major art movements from Romanticism of the 1830s to Psychedelic art of the 1960s. This book was written to parallel the Beautiful Feet U.S. and World History curriculum, but can stand alone or be used to enhance any world history curriculum by teaching hands-on art lessons for each time period. While creating art in the style of the masters, students will gain a better understanding of world history and art history as they unfold together. Included with each book is exclusive access to the Resource Center at KnoodleU.com which provides valuable lesson support, videos, and project downloads to enhance your studies. New for 2016: Now you can download quizzes and mid-term exams designed for Drawing on History.
