Description

Between 700 BC and 323 BC, the ancient Greek language included 5 main dialects. Attic was the language of Athens, the main cultural center, and this was mostly used in prose. Later, it developed into the common dialect koine which was used in translating the New Testament. This course is really a language study. It draws on work from Plato, Euripides, and Aeschylus. The student is expected to thoroughly understand English grammar as it is used to bridge you into the lessons. There are 24 units, each with 2-3 sections covering grammar, sentences, and passages to read in Greek. Best to memorize the alphabet first! This seems like too much for a 1-year study to me for a first-time student of Greek. I would spread it out and add it to your high school history, English, politics, philosophy or science – rather than count it as a 1-year credit in foreign language (but you could!) It is one of those courses that will make you smarter for life in general. ~Sara
