Best for older kids who like to build
This robot is adorable and works quite well when assembled. However, the initial assembly process is long. My 8 year old was not old enough to carefully remove the plastic pieces from the initial sheets, though he could easily build the different robots once I extricated the pieces. My 5 year old could program the robot independently. They loved all 3 functions, especially the shooting. However, my children were not mature enough to keep track of the pieces that were not in use for a particular build. Over time (within a few months), the pieces did not fit together as well and required some fiddling to work. My kids also managed to snap one of the wires connecting the battery pack to the motor. This could be soldered back together, if you like to do that sort of thing, but overall this was more work than we were looking for in a robot.

Good kit but almost caught on fire
I am really struggling with how to rate this. My son put the batteries in backward and we started smelling burning plastic. My husband figured out what was wrong, so for now this is an only with a parent toy. My husband stated it was really hot and would have caught on fire shortly. He really enjoys the dart shooting feature and loves the ability to program the robot. So while I would like to return it, he considers this his best gift and would be crushed if I did. I don't know if there is something wrong with our robot or if this is a design flaw.
