Category Description for Paired Passages:

Students are given the opportunity to compare and contrast several reading passages in a variety of genres and subjects, such as science and social studies. They will do fiction/ non-fiction comparisons, fiction/fiction and non-fiction/non-fiction. Attention to detail is the focus here. After reading a passage, students answer a few questions before making their comparisons. An assessment rubric and answers in each book can be used by the student for self-checking or the teacher for grading. Perforated pages are reproducible for a single classroom/family. Meets current state standards. These would make for a good morning basket item or warm-up activity for your daily language arts. 93pp. ~Sara

Finally, writing we’re happy with!
I have struggled to find a writing program that both my kids and I like. Finally, with kid #4, I have found something that makes us both happy. This incorporates reading comprehension, summarizing, finding supporting details etc. in one easy place. The topics can generally be used as jumping off points to learn about other topics. The only drawback is that it is a little slim to use for the whole year. We supplement with journaling.
