Description

Light boxes have come a long way! They used to be something an artist would use for tracing and such. Now they have all sorts of learning opportunities for young learners and potentially for non-traditional learners as well. This set has two components – the light panel and the tray. The light panel is so thin! It's just amazing! It measures 13.5" x 18" and is only 5mm thick. There are 3 levels of light (low/med/high), all controlled with the power button, so it is very simple to operate. You can lay objects directly on the light panel to examine details of shells and leaves, or simply study color overlays and see how colors blend. You want translucent materials (clear plastics, tissue paper, etc) if you are going to study letters or shapes. A 12V power supply is included and you will use the light panel plugged in. The other component in this set is the clear tray that lays over the light panel. It's more of a bin really at 3" deep with rolled edges. With this tray, a child can use finger paints, water beads, sand, and other messy things to explore and learn without mussing up the light panel. The tray doesn't just fit on top of the light, it fits around the light so it cannot slide around. It's a clever design and multiplies the usability of the light as a learning tool. The tray is quite large and two or three students could easily use it at the same time.

If you have a child with sensory needs or special needs, a hands-on learner, a creative builder child, a child who responds to colors, a child who craves novelty in their learning (did I cover everyone?), consider investing in a light panel. I think you will be surprised how easy it is to use and leave out, and how often you will think of things to put on the light source. It's a fascinating way to learn and look at things around you with a critical eye. Learners are examining objects, not just handling them. Devices like this feed into a child's natural curiosity to learn more about the world around them.~Sara
